The Sunshine Coast Cup has come and gone for 2012 and saw the introduction of the Round Robin System into the sparring event, which seemed to be a success. We ran the sparring this way for the first time, after getting some valuable feedback from Mr Ken Hayden, with his experience travelling to other countries where they run their events this way. The reason for taking on this type of system gives all competitors equal chance of the first place trophy. Each competitor competes against each other, scoring 2 points for the win and 1 for a draw. The Jury records flags for and against and also notes down the warnings in the event of multiple wins in a single division. If by chance there are multiple competitors on the same score, a playoff for either 1st and 2nd or 2nd and 3rd is held to confirm the placing’s. The other advantage is that competitors travelling from other countries or interstate will be assured of more than 1 fight, even though they lose their 1st fight. Each division has only 6 competitors giving a minimum of 5 fights each in a full division. The senior Dan’s did 1 x 2min round, the colour belts 1 ½ min and the juniors 1min round.

The medal presentation saw the introduction of the David Cassidy award for the most spirited competitor which went to Jessie Lumsden. This award means a great deal to IL Shim members and in particular the Sunshine Coast Club. David Cassidy was a highly devoted and well respected member of IL Shim. With his passing, this award is a way of remembering him and carrying on his good spirit and awarding it to the one that shows they are worthy of this great award, congratulations Jessie.

A great day was had by all and as we now prepare for the next IL Shim tournament in Aberdeen, I would like to thank everyone for their support in making these events safe and fun for all ages.

See you all at our next event.

Kind regards

John Abdallah

Manager ITF Australia

Gen. Choi and Master Daher

Dear ITF Members and Masters,

This 15th of June marks 10 years since the passing away of General Choi Hong Hi. We pause for a heartfelt homage and to thank his wonderful legacy.

I wish to share this reflection with you, for it has been quite a long while since his demise, during which our institutGen. Choi and Master Daherion´s work capacity has been put to test, and become able to draw most international TKD practitioners to our ranks.

It is precisely the term line that I want to address: when our founder passed away, three lines became defined, which in order  to identify themselves were called thus: Tran Trieu Quan Line, Chang Ung  Line and  Choi Jong Haw Line. After the loss of dear  GM Tran Trieu Quan, many  members invoke my name as a new way to call our line. However, I think it is time we took what rightfully belongs to us and become known as the “Gen. Choi Hong Hi Line”.

Owing to  the fact that our entity is not monarchic but that it is democratic and therefore time will force us to renew our Presidents (for no more than two periods are allowed), this would force us to successive changes in name to ratify our Line and moreover, because we know that we are heirs to the ITF  legacy and our approach would fill our predecessors with pride.

We will simply employ this name whenever we need to refer to ourselves, as well as in the web or in a journalistic interview, we will do it in this way:  ¨General Choi Hong Hi Line”; and it  will be the best tribute possible to our Founder

Warm regards,

Pablo Trajtenberg

ITF President

General Choi

Once again the sunshine coast hosted Master Michael Daher 8th dan, for a master class and grading. Once again the students and myself were treated to an exceptional seminar on sparring drills that flowed so seamlessly from one technique to the next.

The importance of practicing these drills was emphasised as there would be no progress without effort! The drills really do work and i proved this in hobart in sparring where every point that I scored came from drills Master Daher had showed me.

The grading that followed, although smaller tha i would have liked, was, i think, one of the best we have had for a while. Master Daher would have liked to have failed my students on stances, but could not as they were perfect!!! We have really been focusing on this lately and it showed! next thing is foot shape though!!

All in all it was a great day and thanks must go again to Master Daher for his tireless efforts in travelling to all of our clubs!
